Alex Doty, an Eagle Scout of Roxbury Boy Scout Troop 159 in Succasunna, has installed a wooden boardwalk on the Blue Trail at Black River Park in Roxbury with the help of family and Troop 159 scouts. This new addition carries the hiker over a section of the trail that is often wet and muddy, especially in the spring and summer months.
Doty’s project entailed planning and building a 40-inch-wide, 64-foot-long curved walkway over the swampy section and replacing the nearby 4-foot-wide, 16-foot-long bridge with pressure-treated lumber.
Alex’ Eagle Scout project is a huge success so far, but is not yet completed. In addition to the boardwalk, he also would like to replace an aging wooden bridge on the trail which crosses over a stream connecting to the Black River. Due to the high prices of lumber at this time, he has needed help with the cost to complete the bridge.
Doty said he hopes to have these projects finished by the end of the summer. The project will total about $1,800. Please donate at GoFundMe/AlexDoty to help complete the bridge portion of Alex’ project.
Special thanks to Alex for tackling this important project!
